Course welcome
Meet the course and what you'll achieve
Welcome! This handbook shows you how to build real apps by talking to AI in plain English. You don't need to know how to code.
What does building with AI mean?
Think of AI as a very fast builder who never gets tired. You are the person with the plan. You say what you want, the builder makes it, and you check the work.
Almost every app you build with AI follows the same simple loop:
- You describe the app you want, in your own words.
- The AI builds it and writes the code for you.
- You check the result, ask for changes, and improve it.
- Finally, you launch it so other people can use it.
A quick example
Here is the kind of message you will write. This message is called a prompt. It is simply what you type to an AI tool like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.
Build me a simple recipe app.
I will type in the ingredients I have at home.
The app should suggest 3 recipes I can make with them.
Keep the design clean and easy to read on a phone.Let's break this down:
- The first line says what to build.
- The middle lines say what the user puts in and what they get back.
- The last line adds a small rule about how it should look.
From one message like this, many AI tools can create a small working app you can click and use.
What you'll be able to do
You do not need to become a traditional programmer first. This handbook teaches you how to plan, instruct, build, debug, version, and deploy software with AI.
Along the way, you'll learn the key ideas you need to make safe and reliable decisions. That means you'll understand what the AI did, not just copy it.
- Understand how AI and large language models work.
- Write clear prompts and simple plans for your apps.
- Build small apps right inside AI chat tools.
- Save your work safely with Git and GitHub.
- Use AI coding agents to build full apps with logins, databases, and payments.
- Fix problems and put your app on the internet.
Common mistakes
- Thinking you must learn to code first. You don't. You'll learn the ideas as you need them.
- Only reading and never trying. Open an AI tool and type the prompts yourself.
- Giving up when the first result is not perfect. Asking for changes is a normal part of building with AI.
Practice
Try these exercises to lock in what you just learned.
